After months living under the same roof, it began to take its toll.
Every night, I slept with the car key under my pillow.
I told two trusted people where my daily notes were, in case. In case of what, I didn’t know.
The daily turmoil was too much sometimes. My mum visited and I remember her words “you can’t live like this”. My mum was great, besides the initial shock, her place was one of my refuges.
One afternoon I looked at my ex and said “I’m not scared of you, you don’t intimidate me”. I left the kitchen and he followed me (this was a situation I had experienced previously).
My mind racing, my heart pounding…the unknown…..
I went into my son’s room assuming he would let it go, he didn’t. He knocked on the door saying “are you scared now?”
I will never forget my son’s face. I said to him “it’s ok babe” while visibly shaking. Apparently reporting to the police the next day was insufficient, I was advised I should have rang the police whilst with my son.
I still continued on, why? For my boy, and I didn’t have anywhere to go with him and my dog.
