Denigration, limiting contact and interfering with communication between the child and targeted parent (1-3/17)
Badmouthing or denigrating the targeted parent
This involves constant criticism of the targeted parent, making negative comments (either to the child or in front of them), exaggerating or highlighting flaws and creating a negative narrative that does not align with the targeted parent.
The goal is to break the connection between the child and targeted parent and create fear and/or hate to push the child to join the denigration.
My experience included daily insults, suggestions to my child I didn’t love or care about him, undermining and rejecting my authority as a mother, encouraging my son not to listen to me and many more things.
Limiting contact or restricting time with the child
This includes interfering with all forms of communication, limiting time or contact and interrupting and undermining parental time.
The goal is to minimise opportunities for the child to maintain a healthy relationship with the targeted parent.
My experience involved not letting my child spend time with me, unremitting interference whilst my son was in my care, secretly organising and picking up my son during scheduled time (50/50 care), intercepting messages, ringing or messaging my son from the moment he woke up until past bedtime, organising to take my son interstate without advising….many examples happened whilst under the same roof and after I left the family home.
